The CIGNA Falmouth Road Race Challenge essay contest sought to celebrate people who have overcome a life-altering disability or illness, and ask how they have inspired others.
This year, Lois Green of East Greenbush, New York, won the all-expense paid trip to run the CIGNA Falmouth Road Race on Sunday, August 15, 2010 in Falmouth, Mass. as a member of Team CIGNA.
In her essay, she described her life-changing discovery: lung cancer. She never smoked and no one in her family ever had cancer until that year. Thoracotomy surgery removed half of her left lung, but not her spirit.
