Michelle Beadle Is Ready For The ESPYs

But are you? is the real question. Actually, you don't have much choice. There's no real sports. The only TV tonight is scripted garbage, full of hackneyed jokes backed by forced laughter. Or, you could watch sitcoms. Ba-dum-tsh!
Seth Meyers is the head writer for one of the unfunnier SNL eras, and can't even get into any sketches. This makes him overqualified to host tonight's awards. As Drew writes elsewhere,
I assume he'll be on hand to make jokes about LeBron James a week after everyone else has already made them all. Say, it's just like his work on "Weekend Update"! Seriously though, someone needs to explain Seth Meyers' success to me. At least little girls think Jimmy Fallon is cute. I almost understand his appeal. But with Meyers, it's like someone found a guy working at an accounting firm and said, "You! You seem mildly snarky! How would you like to be head writer of SNL?" And off he went.
I think it will be slightly less painful to watch than seeing Pete Carroll try to distance himself from USC on tonight's HBO Real Sports.
Well, bad television isn't so bad if you can MST3K it. So use this space as your ESPY's open thread.

Talking “Akron Hammer” with Michelle Beadle (January 27, 2010)

King James”
“The Choosen One”
“The Akron Hammer”
One of those nicknames for Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James does not belong. Can you guess it? If you picked “The Akron Hammer”, you are correct. Well, in my opinion.
But one sports personality thinks otherwise.

MICHELLE BEADLE, co-host of “SportsNation”, a show on ESPN2, came up with the “Akron Hammer” nickname and believes that should reign supreme. I had the chance to interview Michelle yesterday about the nickname and we had a fun debate with it.
Michelle may have Jalen Rose and John Anderson, both who are with ESPN, on her side, but I have ESPN NBA reporter Chris Broussard, Mico-host Colin Cowherd, and ESPN personality Skip Bayless on mine. Will both these lists grow?
And will this come down to a shootout between Michelle and I? If I win, Michelle is banned from calling him the “Akron Hammer”. And if she wins, I will wear a sandwich board with “Akron Hammer” written on it and wear it around Quicken Loans Arena before a game.
Bottom line, does “The King” like it? I asked LeBron if he likes the nickname after the Cavs/Timberwolves game last night, and he told me “Haven’t heard of it”.

Press Hop 2 Has More Michelle Beadle

The second edition of DJ Steve Porter’s Press Hop was released last week, and Michelle Beadle makes a couple of appearances, which is good news for anyone who likes cute blondes who can talk sports. 90s era Mike Tyson and Deion Sanders also get some face time, which is good news for everyone.
Despite those advantages, I have to admit that the first version is better. There’s more of a reliance on the absurdity of the press conferences rather than the beat itself. That being said, how awesome are Lennox Lewis Mitch Green and Mike Tyson dressed? I guess that’s why boxing is going the way of the buffalo. Video after the jump.
